[edit] Biography

Atoq Navarro is a South American archaeologist, mercenary and treasure-hunter. Navarro previously resided in a slum in South America, which he left after meeting British treasure-hunter Gabriel Roman, who hired Navarro to aid him in his search of El Dorado.[1]

In July 2006,[2] Navarro, his mercenaries and Roman confront explorer Nathan "Nate" Drake and antique-dealer Victor "Sully" Sullivan in the rainforest. Sully owes Roman a large sum of money, and in an effort to appease Roman, has informed Roman that he is on the trail of the legendary treasure of El Dorado. However, Roman has decided that he wants the treasure for himself and has recruited Navarro and his mercenaries to aid in searching for the treasure.[1]

Roman and Navarro are able to extract information from Nate and Sully on the location of El Dorado and head to the uncharted island in the Pacific Ocean where El Dorado is said to be. There, as Navarro's mercenaries battle against Nate, Roman and Navarro are able to locate the treasure. Despite the widespread belief that El Dorado is a lost city of gold, it is actually revealed that El Dorado is a large golden statue. After this revelation, Roman and Navarro come across Nate once more and kidnap his companion, journalist and cable television show presenter Elena Fisher.[1]

After the kidnapping, Roman is preparing to move the statue to his boat when Navarro persuades him to open the statue. Roman does so, and is infected by the virus that resides inside the statue. The virus begins turning Roman into one of the creatures that are known as the Descendants - the mutated remains of the previous inhabitants of the island that were infected by the same virus.[3] Roman realises Navarro has fooled him and lurches at his former right-hand man, but Navarro calmly shoots and kills him, before proceeding to move both the statue and Elena to his boat, with the intention of using the statue as a biological weapon.[1]

However, as Navarro is moving the statue, a number of Descendants swarm the area and begin attacking Navarro's mercenaries. In the chaos, Nate is able to hitch a ride on Navarro's helicopter to the boat, where Navarro and Nate engage in their final showdown. What begins as a gunfight soon turns to hand-to-hand combat, and Nate takes advantage as he knocks Navarro to the floor. As Nate tends to a wounded Elena, Navarro rises with a shotgun in hand, but his foot is caught in the rope connecting his helicopter and the statue of El Dorado. Nate sees this and pushes the helicopter off the boat and into the sea, sending Navarro and the statue of El Dorado down with it.[1]
