Eddy Raja's pirates are an antagonist faction that appear in the Uncharted series.

In the series, they are a band of pirates led by Eddy Raja. The pirates make a small appearance in the Uncharted: Eye of Indra motion comic, and they also appear in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, providing additional security for British treasure-hunter Gabriel Roman as the treasure-hunter searches for the fabled treasure of El Dorado.

The pirates also make non-canonical appearances in the 2009 video game Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and the 2011 video game Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.

[edit] Background

Little is known about the band of pirates before their involvement in the search for El Dorado, but it can be assumed that the majority of them have roots in Indonesia, as that is where Eddy Raja hails from. It could also be assumed that the pirates were all held in high regard by Eddy for him to have included them as part of his band of pirates. Furthermore, a number of the pirates wear scars and other faded injuries, suggesting a violent life before being hired by Eddy.[1]

[edit] Uncharted: Eye of Indra

In June 2006,[2] the pirates attack treasure-hunter Nathan "Nate" Drake after he and Eddy's sister Rika Raja have spent the night together. Outnumbering Nate and Rika, the pirates are able to restrain them until Eddy arrives and questions Nate on his dealings with Rika.[3]

[edit] Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

In July 2006,[2] Eddy and the pirates are hired by British treasure-hunter Gabriel Roman to provide additional security while Roman searches the island he believes the treasure of El Dorado to be held on. The pirates work in co-operation with South American archaeologist Atoq Navarro and his team of mercenaries in order to prevent explorer Nathan "Nate" Drake and his companions from reaching the treasure before Roman.[1]

When the Descendants - the mutated remains of the island's previous inhabitants - begin exposing themselves and attacking everyone else on the island, the pirates begin diminishing in numbers, and ultimately only Eddy and a pirate named Prakoso remain. Nate stands alongside Eddy and Prakoso in a battle against the Descendants in the island's catacombs, but Eddy and Prakoso are both killed by the creatures in this encounter, bringing the band of pirates to an end.[1]

[edit] Members

The band of pirates is directly led by Eddy Raja, although Eddy and his pirates are subordinate to treasure-hunter Gabriel Roman, his right-hand man Atoq Navarro and Navarro's mercenaries. Events depicted in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune suggests that Eddy's band of pirates is large in numbers, but only two of these pirates are given a name and any sort of identity:

  • Mac can be identified by his eye patch and black bandana, and can often be seen carrying a Moss-12 shotgun.
  • Prakoso is the last pirate left standing. He can be identified by his yellow vest.

[edit] Appearances

[edit] Behind the scenes

Eddy Raja's pirates first appear in the 2007 video game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and return in the 2009 video game Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, the Uncharted: Eye of Indra motion comic and the 2011 video game Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. In Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, the pirates are voiced by seven actors,[4] In Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, the voice work for the pirates is provided solely by Matthew Yang King,[5][6] an American actor perhaps best known for his work on the medical drama Strong Medicine and crime series Numb3rs.[7] Although the pirates do not make a canonical appearance in the single player story mode of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, they appear in the multiplayer component of the game; Prakoso and Mac are both available as multiplayer skins in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves when purchased as part of downloadable content released for the game. Prakoso was released as part of the Siege Downloadable Expansion Pack,[8] while Mac would later be included in the Sidekick Downloadable Skin Pack.[9] In Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, Prakoso is again available as a Villain skin when purchased from the PlayStation Store, either individually or as part of Classic Skins Pack 1.[10][11]
