Mountaineering is the seventeenth chapter of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. The chapter follows treasure-hunter Nathan "Nate" Drake as Tibetan mountaineer Tenzin leads him into the Himalayan Mountains.

[edit] Summary
As per Karl Schäfer's instructions, Nathan "Nate" Drake is led by Tibetan mountaineer Tenzin into the caves near Schäfer and Tenzin's village in an effort to find the remains of Schäfer's expedition to find Shambhala and the Cintamani Stone said to be there.
This chapter follows the two as they make their way through the caves, each saving the other's life on occasion. As the two get further into the cave, they become aware of something watching them, and also come across some dead wolves that have been almost torn apart. As the two advance even deeper into the caves, they are attacked by a Guardian disguised as a yeti. Nate uses a P08-9mm taken from one of the bodies from Schäfer's expedition to weaken the beast, and when Tenzin stabs it with his kukri blade, the Guardian flees.
After regaining their composure, Tenzin and Nate continue through the caves, eventually coming to a large staircase. At this point in the story, the chapter ends and Heart of Ice takes over.

There are six Treasures that can be collected in Mountaineering:
- The Tibetan Ritual Blade is found early in the chapter, after Tenzin has led Nathan "Nate" Drake over a rope swing and down a ladder.[1]
- The Clay Deity Head is found on a ledge on the right-hand side of the rope swing after Nate and Tenzin see a wolf.[1]
- The Bronze Chenrezig Statue is found shortly after Tenzin boosts Nate up a broken ladder.[1]
- The Skull Cap Drum is on a ledge on the right-hand side at the end of the flowing river.[1]
- The Silver Needle Case is on a ledge above the flowing river. [1]
- The Bronze Stupa Ornament is found on a ledge to the left-hand side of where Nate must shoot at a box for a ladder to fall down.[1]
[edit] Behind the scenes
Mountaineering marks the first appearances of the Guardians and the Dead Explorer in the Uncharted series.
The Ice Cave, a map in the multiplayer component of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, seems to be based on the ice caves featured in both this chapter and chapter 18 of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Heart of Ice.
