[edit] Objective

Plunder pits two teams of five players against each other, with the objective to collect the treasure that spawns in random positions on the map and return it to their designated chest. Each time a team collects the treasure and returns it to their chest, they score one point. The first team that collects the treasure and returns it to their chest five times wins the game. Alternatively, if the game's 20-minute time limit expires before either team has scored five times, the team with the most points wins.

[edit] History

Often considered the Uncharted series' take on the traditional capture the flag game,[1] Plunder first appeared in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves multiplayer. Plunder's inclusion in the game would be confirmed when it was one of the gameplay modes available in the Uncharted 2: Among Thieves multiplayer beta and public demo.[1][2]

The mode would later be confirmed as returning in the multiplayer component of Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception when it was revealed to be one of the gameplay modes available in the multiplayer beta of the game.[3]

[edit] Variants

[edit] Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Through "The Lab" - Naughty Dog's way of introducing new gameplay modes and variants to the multiplayer component of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - several variants of Plunder have been available for short periods of time. These are:

  • Pistols Only Plunder was one of the first available gameplay variants in "The Lab". As the name suggests, the only weapons available in these Plunder games were 92FS-9mm pistols and Mk-NDI grenades. This variant ran from July 9, 2010 to July 12, 2010, and was available on four maps: The Plaza, The Sanctuary, The Train Wreck and The Lost City.[4] Pistols Only Plunder would also be one of the gameplay variants available on October 16, 2010 as part of the special anniversary edition of "The Lab" that took place on the one year anniversary of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. This Pistols Only Plunder took place on four maps: The Plaza, The Sanctuary, The Temple and The Train Wreck.[5] Pistols Only Plunder would return for a final time as part of the special edition of "The Lab" held over the 2010-2011 holiday season. It was one of the gameplay variants that were available from December 22, 2010 to January 3, 2011, and took place on four maps: The Lost City, The Plaza, The Sanctuary and The Temple.[6]
  • 3 vs. 3 Plunder was the second Plunder variant made available through "The Lab". It was the same as regular Plunder games, with the exception of both teams being reduced to just three players. This variant ran from October 1, 2010 to October 4, 2010 and was available on four maps: The Plaza, The Sanctuary, The Temple and The Train Wreck.[7]
  • Snipers Only Plunder was the third and final variant of Plunder available on "The Lab". Running from November 24, 2010 to November 29, 2010, the variant allowed only Dragon Snipers to be used during Plunder games. This variant was available on four maps: The Lost City, The Plaza, The Train Wreck and The Sanctuary.[8]
