Zoran Lazarević's soldiers are an antagonist faction that appear in the 2009 video game Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

To aid in his search for legendary lost city of Shambhala and the mythical Cintamani Stone said to be there, Serbian war criminal Zoran Lazarević amassed a large private army. As well as aiding in his search, these soldiers were also tasked with battling Nathan "Nate" Drake, a treasure-hunter said to be a descendant of Sir Francis Drake, who was also searching for the Cintamani Stone.

Several of the soldiers also make a non-canonical appearance in the multiplayer component of the 2011 video game Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.

[edit] Background

Little is known about the soldiers before their involvement in Zoran Lazarević's affairs, although it can be assumed that the majority of them are Serbian, or at least of Eastern Europe descent. This is due to Lazarević's heritage, and also how many of the soldiers can be heard to speak in an Eastern European dialect. Furthermore, it could be suggested that the soldiers in Lazarević's army were all well-skilled, hence why they were selected for the team. The soldiers all proved to be brave and obedient, as they all engaged Nathan "Nate" Drake in combat, despite the heavy losses the private army sustained at the hands of Nate and his allies.[1]

[edit] Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

In August 2009, the soldiers aid Lazarević and his associate Harry Flynn in their search for the mythical Cintamani Stone, said to be in the legendary lost city of Shambhala. Although the army looks to be somewhat organised, many of them prove inept in combat as Nate and his allies dispose of many of them.[1]

The soldiers line up in The Village.

When the entourage comprising of Nate and Lazarević's allies enters Shambhala, the army has been somewhat diminished in terms of numbers. These numbers continue to drop, as two of Lazarević's named soldiers are killed. Lovac, the army's sniper, is killed by Lazarević; whilst Nate holds Lovac hostage, Lazarević shoots Lovac dead in an effort to showcase his lack of compassion, while Dragan is killed when he is impaled on a sharp tree branch in Shambhala. The remaining soldiers' fates are largely unknown, although it can be assumed they all perished when Shambhala crumbled at the end of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Furthermore, with both Lazarević and his right-hand man Lieutenant Draza dead, it's likely that the any remains of the army dissolved after the events of the game.[1]

[edit] Members

Towards the end of the game, a comment by Zoran Lazarević towards Nathan "Nate" Drake alludes to his army having hundreds of members. However, only six of these soldiers are named and given any sort of identity. This doesn't include Lieutenant Draza, who appears to be the leader of Lazarević's soldiers, due to his position as Lazarević's right-hand man and how he can often be seen relaying orders to the remaining soldiers.

  • Dragan is a heavily-armoured soldier, usually seen handling a Moss-12 shotgun.
  • Lovac, identified by his navy ski mask and his pair of headphones, usually carries a Desert-5 or a Dragon Sniper.
  • Sark is often seen armed with an RPG-7 and wears a bandana around the lower half of his face.
  • Tetram, usually seen carrying an M32-Hammer, can be identified by the gas mask he wears on his face.
  • Vodnik wears a ski mask and will always be carrying a shotgun - whether it be a Moss-12, SAS-12 or Pistole.
  • Zorskel is another heavily-armoured soldier, who will often carry the SAS-12 shotgun.

[edit] Behind the scenes

Zoran Lazarević's soldiers first appear in the 2009 video game Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. The soldiers are voiced by nine actors;[2] six of these provide additional voice work in the Uncharted series: Michael Benyaer voices the Indian Ocean pirates;[3] Gregg Berger voices Atoq Navarro's mercenaries;[4] Steve Blum voices the Guardians and the Descendants;[2][4] Robin Atkin Downes voices Atoq Navarro and Talbot;[4][3] Yuri Lowenthal voices Navarro's mercenaries;[4] and Fred Tatasciore voices Daniel Pinkerton, the Guardians, the Descendants, the hired thugs and Brute.[2][3]

In the multiplayer component of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Lieutenant Draza, Dragan, Lovac, Sark, Tetram, Vodnik and Zorskel are all available as selectable Villain skins.[5] Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception sees the return of Lazarević's soldiers, as Draza and the named soldiers (excluding Zorskel) are available for use as Villain skins; the soldiers are spread across two packs of downloadable content: Classic Skins Pack 2 and Classic Skins Pack 3.[6][7]
