The Bedouin riders are a protagonist faction that appear in the 2011 video game Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.

In the game, the Bedouin are led by their Sheikh Salim and aid treasure-hunter Nathan "Nate" Drake as he battles Katherine Marlowe and Marlowe's agents in the Rub' al Khali desert.

[edit] Background

The Bedouin riders are led by the Sheikh of the tribe Salim, and reside in a camp in the Rub' al Khali desert that is less than a day's horse ride away from Iram of the Pillars, a mythical lost city. The Bedouin seem to largely comprise of those from the Arab ethnic group, and as is traditional with Bedouin, they are skilled on horseback.[1]

[edit] Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

In a desert village in the middle of the Rub' al Khali desert, the Bedouin riders come to the aid of treasure-hunter Nathan "Nate" Drake while he is battling a large group of agents who are working on behalf of Katherine Marlowe, the head of a secret order dating back 400 years. The Bedouin kill the agents, but spare Nate and take him back to their camp in the desert.[1]

The Sheikh of the Bedouin, Salim.

That night, the Sheikh of the tribe Salim asks Nate why Marlowe and her men are crossing the Rub' al Khali desert. After Nate replies that they are searching for Iram of the Pillars, Salim seems worried, explaining to Nate the horrors that lie within Iram. Nate then goes on to explain that Marlowe has his friend, antique-dealer Victor "Sully" Sullivan. Salim states that Nate will be unable to battle Marlowe's caravan alone and agrees to help Nate along with his Bedouin tribe.[1]

The next day, Salim and the rest of the Bedouin ride on horseback along with Nate as they attack Marlowe's caravan. The Bedouin cover Nate as he jumps from his horse to the trucks in the caravan, defeating Marlowe's agents. Eventually, Nate is able to make his way to the front of the caravan, where he finds Sully. A large agent then attacks Sully and leaves him hanging over the side of a truck, but Salim is able to catch him and help him onto a horse, before the truck containing the large agent crashes. Even though the caravan is defeated and Nate is reunited with Sully, the Bedouin must press on in an attempt to stop Marlowe before she can unleash the horrors that lie within Iram. However, as the Bedouin advance towards Iram they lose sight of Nate and Sully in a sandstorm, and Nate and Sully are left to venture into the lost city alone.[1]

Later, Nate and Sully are able to defeat Marlowe and her right-hand man Talbot, although it is at a cost as Iram is crumbling around them. As Nate and Sully dash for the exit, Salim rides in on horseback to save Nate and Sully, as he pulls them out of the lost city.[1]

[edit] Members

The Bedouin riders are led by their Sheikh Salim; three other Bedouin are named and given an identity:

  • Ali can be identified from the two bandoliers that he wears, which cross his torso in an 'X' formation.
  • Daud wears a head wrap that covers all of his face, except for his eyes.
  • Farraj can be identified from the singular bandolier that he wears, which crosses his torso diagonally.

The Bedouin riders first appear in the 2011 video game Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. The voice work for the Bedouin is provided by five actors, including Sayed Badreya, who also voices antagonist Rameses in the Uncharted series. The voice actors for the Bedouin also voice the Yemeni citizens in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.[2]

Three of the Bedouin riders are available as Hero skins in the multiplayer component of Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. The skins can be purchased individually from the PlayStation Store; alternatively, Ali and Daud can be purchased as part of Rogues Skin Pack 1, while Farraj can be purchased as part of Rogues Skin Pack 2.[3]
