[edit] Biography

Eddy Raja is an Indonesian pirate. He has a sister named Rika,[1] commands an army of pirates and can almost always be seen wielding his prized possession, his Golden Gun.[2]

[edit] Uncharted: Eye of Indra

In June 2006,[3] Eddy is contacted by his sister Rika, who has met Eddy's old friend Nathan "Nate" Drake. Nate is on the trail of the Eye of Indra artefact, one of the three Treasures of Indra. Along with Nate and Rika, Eddy later infiltrates crimelord Daniel Pinkerton's mansion and steals the Eye of Indra artefact - which unbeknownst to Pinkerton, is locked in his safe. In the mansion, Eddy and Nate are able to fight their way through Pinkerton's henchman find the safe, but they are unable to open it. This allows Pinkerton and several of his henchmen to capture Eddy and Nate, before interrogating them.[1]

Pinkerton interrogates Eddy and Nate on the location of the Eye of Indra artefact, but the two are reluctant to relinquish any information about the artefact. Pinkerton then reveals he has also captured Rika, but this proves to be part of a plan that the trio concocted, as Rika shoots and kills Pinkerton and his remaining henchman using Eddy's golden gun.[1]

Later, as Eddy, Rika and Nate regroup at a nearby dock and discuss their next move, Rika double-crosses Eddy and Nate as she turns a gun on them and declares she is taking the artefact for herself, before boarding the boat and leaving Eddy and Nate empty-handed at the dock.[1]

[edit] Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

A month later, in July 2006,[3] Eddy and his band of pirates are hired by British treasure-hunter Gabriel Roman as a security measure. Roman is on the trail of the fabled treasure of El Dorado - actually not a lost city of gold as widely believed, but rather a large golden statue - and hires Eddy and his pirates after locating the island said to hold the treasure. While Roman and his right-hand man Atoq Navarro search the island for the treasure, Eddy and his pirates are tasked with battling Nathan "Nate" Drake and his allies, as Nate is also searching for El Dorado.[2]

Eddy comes to close to capturing Nate on one occasion, as he holds him in an abandoned prison on the island. However, Nate's companion, journalist and cable television show presenter Elena Fisher, helps Nate escape from the prison. While holding Nate captive, Eddy informs Nate that many of his pirates have been killed by an unseen force. This unseen force is later revealed to be the Descendants, the former inhabitants of the island that were turned into rabid creatures after being infected by a virus inside the statue of El Dorado.[2][4]

Soon after, Eddy is dismissed by Roman as the British treasure-hunter considers him to be a fool for his superstitious beliefs regarding the island being cursed. Furthermore, his band of pirates proves to be somewhat inadequate and largely inferior to Navarro's mercenaries.[2]

However, before Eddy and the last of his pirates leave the island, they venture into the island's catacombs in an effort to find some treasure. While in the catacombs, many of Eddy's pirates are killed by the Descendants, leaving Eddy with just one pirate, Prakoso. Soon after, Eddy and Prakoso encounter Nate and Elena again, and Descendants begin to swarm the area. Elena is able to escape, and after Prakoso is killed by a Descendant, Nate and Eddy unite in an effort to fight them off. For a long time, it appears that Nate and Eddy have fought off all of the Descendants, but a creature then grabs Eddy and pulls him deep into the heart of the catacombs. Nate attempts to save Eddy, but the pirate is presumably killed as the Descendant bites him in the neck.[2]

[edit] Appearances

[edit] Behind the scenes

Eddy Raja first appears in the 2007 video game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and has since gone on to appear in the 2009 video game Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, the Uncharted: Eye of Indra motion comic and the 2011 video game Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. In all of his appearances in the Uncharted series, Eddy is voiced by James Sie,[5][6][7][8] an American actor perhaps best known for his voicing of the title character in the animated television series Jackie Chan Adventures.[9] Eddy returns in the multiplayer component of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves as part of downloadable content for the game. When purchased as part of the Drake's Fortune Multiplayer Pack, Eddy becomes available for use as a multiplayer skin, appearing as a villain.[10] In the multiplayer component of Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, Eddy features prominently in the non-canonical Co-op Adventure online gameplay mode; the Prelude - Fort - follows Eddy, Harry Flynn and Zoran Lazarević, while the final chapter Airport positions them as the antagonists, as they battle Nathan "Nate" Drake, Victor "Sully" Sullivan and Charlie Cutter.

Since Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, speculation has been rife that Eddy did not die when he was attacked and dragged into the island's catacombs by a Descendant. This speculation would later be fuelled when renders released shortly after Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception was announced seemed to show an older, wounded Eddy.[11] However, these renders were later dismissed by Uncharted developer Naughty Dog as merely an art test.[12]
